just being honest is gonna be your best bet. tell some interesting stories and focus on your better points.
if you have lived a crappy life, then lie your ass off, but this is only if you're looking to get laid.

The dating web sites are not free...that was instantly a turn off as an option for me. Hell myspace is free but they will charge for that? why?
