US admiral urges caution on Iran
Adm Mullen said the results of war in Iran would be unpredictable

America's top military officer has said opening up a third front in the Middle East through a strike on Iran would be "extremely stressful" for US forces.

Tensions have risen amid reports Israel could be planning a possible strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

At a US defence department news conference, Adm Mullen refused to say what Israeli leaders told him during meetings last week about any plan to strike Iran.

But he warned that opening up a third front, after Iraq and Afghanistan, would be "extremely stressful, very challenging, with consequences that would be difficult to predict".

L ate last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.

There is a growing conviction among members of the United States military, and in the international community, that President Bush’s ultimate goal in the nuclear confrontation with Iran is regime change.

The rationale for regime change was articulated in early March by Patrick Clawson, an Iran expert who is the deputy director for research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and who has been a supporter of President Bush. “So long as Iran has an Islamic republic, it will have a nuclear-weapons program, at least clandestinely,” Clawson told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on March 2nd. “The key issue, therefore, is: How long will the present Iranian regime last?”

Iran has everyone by the throat, if they are attacked the price of oil will go over $300 a barrel

I can't wait for the day of fuel cells, more hybrids, and drilling Alaska for all that oil. The day we can finally let those sand niggers drown in their own oil

Conflict in Georgia as Georgian troops enter separatist region of South Osetia to be met by Russian Military machine. The west admits there will be no easy solution, no one is prepared for a showdown with Russia. 2,000 Georgian troops are serving in Iraq as part of coalition of the willing, will they be let back home to support their country? So many questions.

    A tragic situation.

OMG put the poor guy out of his misery. That is not science, that is Nazi behavior. "help me?" for all we know he could be constantly suffering with no ability to cry out...that would be like a twilight zone episode damn.

If people keep me as a vegetable for years even if I wake up I will only have freedom for a few minutes before they take me away for the murder of those responsible for keeping me in that undignified and painful state.

I found this experiment inspiring and hopeful. I liked this:

Pape acknowledges that further studies are needed to demonstrate that TMS really is beneficial, though she is convinced that it helped Villa. He had only been given a 20 to 40 per cent chance of long-term recovery, and until he was given TMS his functioning had not improved since about four months after the accident. What's more, after the 15th TMS session, he improved incrementally with each session - further evidence that TMS was the cause.

If TMS helped him in any miniscule way, I think it was worth pursuing.

McCain sends a letter to Russians asking for funding against Obama

The Russian mission to the UN in New York says it has turned down a request from John McCain to help fund his presidential campaign.

Reminds me of the music video for One by Metallica, where the guy gets injured in war, and loses like his entire face, and all these doctors/scientists create this thing that keeps him alive but he can't talk or move and he's in constant pain, and he uses morse code to signal to the nurse to kill him and as she tries to shes pulled away by doctors and hes "plugged-back-in".

    It's a rather disturbing video.

There's an excellent movie recently "The Divingbell & the Butterfly" about a guy who suffered locked in syndrome. True story, too.
