Fresh Greenbeans are so much better..

No matter how much time you spend preparing green beans, lightly cooked, fresh green beans are so much better.

The same can be said about any food.

By the way, I am afraid to cook baked potatoes now. I guess I didn't cook it right because it was all chunky and didn't seem properly cooked.

    Chunky? or crumbly?

You just didn't cook them long enough. They take ridiculously long to bake. The nice thing about baked potatoes is they can't be overcooked. The skin might get a little tough, but the insides stay nice and soft.

holy crap gerbil has a 1.5 ratio, but he's at a 200 base.

Obviously no one knows or cares what it means, but I'll bet it's at least as important as green beans.

I don't know very much about nutrition, and therefore don't know how 'unhealthy' raw potatoes would be. My opinion is that since it is a vegetable, it is healthy to eat it, even raw. You know, you can eat plastic racecars, and you'll shit them out... they're not really bad for you, even though they're not 'edible' per se.

I cooked the baked potato for about 45 minutes, at 400 F. I had to pull it out when the green beans were done and the ham was well cooked. Then again, maybe I could have just left it in the oven while I ate that first...

By the way, I kind of believe in the evolution theory... sorry for turning this into a debate, but maybe it's worth discussing; if we evolved, then obviously each one of us has a different metabolism, needs different nutrition, and possibly somethings are healthy for some of us, while not for others? What do you guys think?

Clearly it means that I am awesome and I have won teh internets. Duh.

Anywho, I try to bake my potatoes for about an hour. That generally guarantees they come out right regardless of size.

I am sure that after I cook a few more, they'll be pretty good. Those were my first baked potatoes. They were horrible, but I ate them anyway. I eat them without butter or salt. Anyone else eat them that way?

Try drizzling a little oil and salt on the skin before you cook them, Lilwing.

I usually eat mine with a big heap of butter.

I was looking at online recipes, and some of them suggested the oil and salt. What do you like to use? Iodized salt?

I've always enjoyed things raw, or cooked without seasoning or condiments. Sometimes I like them a little, but I usually eat the food and enjoy the natural taste.

Baking potatoes takes a long time. Wrap them in foil to keep the skin from charring too much, bake them at 400F for about an hour.

I don't keep kosher, but kosher salt is the best-tasting salt out there...

I hear Maldon also makes good salt, but I haven't been able to find it in my local markets.

How about rolling them in brown sugar or something? Make em sweet I'd be afraid of them catching fire or something.

Russett potatoes are not good with brown sugar. Sweet potatoes are, but they are an entirely different type of potato.
