OV clearly has no idea any religion besides Catholicism exists, nor does he understand that not even all Christians believe the bible to be a literal representation.

Sorry OV, but you arguing about religion like you know anything about is about as ridiculous as if I were to argue about biology with you. You would know almost immediately that I don't know much, and with regards to religion, it is glaringly obvious you have perhaps an elementary school level of knowledge at most. That's okay, though because I don't believe in hell, so I don't think you need "saving".

You are right, I don't know that other religions exist...... Oh gimmie a break. Oh and not taking the bible literally? What do these christians follow that don't follow the bible? some new book they wrote in the basement? either you follow your faith or you don't, you don't pick and choose what your god wants. So beat your women like the bible says men or you are going to hell. If you had pre-marital sex you are going to hell anyways. hypocrites. How do you know how much I know about religion? you make it sound like you are some expert. While some religions are very different than others they all do have one thing in common, they are all wrong.

To me it refers to someone who believes in god. This is why people ask: "are you religious?"

It shows in what you say. Sorry, but it does.

Nope, not an expert, but I have studied religious theology off and on for what .... 10+ years?

But not the simplistic stuff you hear in church on Sunday. That stuff is meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

There are people who believe in God, but don't follow any Religion, are they still Religious?

Likewise there are people who are Religious, but who don't believe in God, what do you call them?

Religion is also often described as a "way of life" or a life stance.

and in fairness to OV he has a right to his opinion....Shh! don't be so full of it

People can believe in gods without being religious. That makes them theists. Besides, it seems most Christians these days don't do much more than vote Republican and slap WWJD stickers on the backs of their gigantic SUVs. Screw going to Church or praying.

How do you think Christianity is tied to the corporate world?

I think that since it is so mind-numbing, that it promotes this sort of capitalistic environment. There's a bit more I'd like to say but I would like to hear opinions first.

OV... you should take your leave m8....

firstly... replacing 'religion' with 'idiot' wouldnt work, its grammatically INCORRECT...

Second... shh! was talking about the interpretation of religious texts, i garantee that if you go to Northern Ireland they wont agree theyre the same religion.

IMO.... you need to read some books, begin to understand how words and sentences are formed, THEN go and read something other than the bible your gran bought you when you signed on at your comfirmation!
...judge not a book by its cover, nor the words by the pages on which they are written...

..."you can hold back form the suffering of the world and you have free permission to do so, and it is within your nature. but perhaps in this holding back, you have invoked the one suffering you could have avoided"...

If christianity begun at 0 A.D (which is another thing...We're pretty much forced to count years according to a religious concept) the romans were surely way ahead in having logos already, and I strongly doubt the bible was the first book, most sold is a maybe counting from the start of christianity to the present.

If anything I have a problem with religion and politics. It's meant to be separate, right? Either way, it's saddening to know that the chance of a non-christian to become U.S president is miniscule. What makes a religious leader a better leader? I'd be more worried with justifying wars as "god's mission" and all that bull to avoid the rational decisions and hidden agendas.

it was because of the invention of the GREGORIAN calender that caused the months and days etc to be counted ad they are now, before it was more of a lunar calender, as the chinese have. but he was the pope so it kinda ties in [i mite be wrong, correct me if i am]...

i think in the UK religion is much less important as we are a small country with a vast spread of cultures and backgrounds. politics and religion are pretty separate here in the mind of the voters. they arent going to vote for someone whos a bible basher, nor a muslim fanatic. but if you keep your religion to yourself and are pretty tolerant, politics seems to be not too harsh!

Not sure of the specifics of the calendar, I just pretty much meant the counting of years, seems a bit silly to count everything after the death of a religious character if you don't belong to that religion, but then again its just a minor thing.

Fortunately for the politics its the same in Sweden, there's hardly ever anything in the media concerning what politicians believe in, and I think that most people don't even know because its not an issue for the elections. The way it should be, leave the voting to the ones that are the most suitable.

Children should be seen and not heard. Go play on another thread and quit trying to antagonize. OV is a big boy, and can handle himself.
