All this 'historic moment' stuff is really irrelevant to me & its starting to sound a bit trite, IMO. Who cares that Obama is black? Just that he's intelligent & looks likely to do a reasonable job.

It could have just as easily been: the 1st woman pres. Or the first asian/hispanic/anyone from a minority. It was mostly timing. Let's face it: if Bill Clinton had been running now, following GWB, he would have won in a landslide. Almost any decent Dem candidate would have, esp w/the Republicans bringing Palin on board.

    Well done America, I’m impressed.

I have niggling concerns in the back of my mind tho which I really hope I’m wrong to be worried about. I’m concerned that something might happen that Obama will have to step down/be removed to leave Biden as president (the original plan). Having America vote in Obama made America look very good to the rest of the world for the first time in a HUGE way which was desperately needed (therefore possibly contrived). Obviously if Obama is removed the president will be a ‘WHITE’ ‘GUY’ ; Biden. We all know if McCain had won that he would have kicked the bucket and left that crazy ‘woman’ in charge. I really hope that Obama is there for the full term.

Obama is the worthy winner of the two.

It's historic because it will have wide range repercussions from US self identity to how US is seen in the eyes of the rest of the world.

I don't think so. World opinion would have been positive with ANY Democrat in office. I think it's historic solely because he is black. I'm okay with that - it's worth celebrating. Party on for two months, and then let's get to business.

Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Yes, that is a concern, particularly since he is black and by default is representing the black community. I hope he is the best president we ever had, or all the crackers will have fuel to add to their fire (not that they needed anyting because they will simply manufacture reasons to perpetuate hate). It's such a lot of pressure to be the first ___________.

it is relevent that he is black. for a long time minorities in u.s. have been brainwashed to believe that we could never achieve such a high status. black people had never ever aspired to be president or hold high government offices. same with women. also, he got a lot of disenfranchised minorities to vote and have a say in government.

but aside from being black, obama is a very intelligent and sincere man. i am hopeful that things will get better.

Here's to hoping he will help heal the racial divide in our country. Don't mind the haters, Obama!

I really hope for this country that he does make a good president but if he tries to tax me more I am punching the first baby I see in the face.

I don't give a ****. Why? Because its America and besides it doesn't matter much wether its McCain or Obama. A lot of you think Obama is different, but if you look at his team, you can predict another wars to come. He has created an illusion that your apathetic americans can have a say, but I doubt it will happen. Heh, his wife is a member of CFR and Brzezinski himself is his advisor.
    Don't expect anything.

The only reason Estonia isn't tearing the throats out of its neighbors is because it's too small and its people are too busy tearing the throats out of each other. You live in one of the most violent countries in the world. Keep that in mind when you criticize the US.

Obama is going to be a ****ing awesome president. Boobaa is just pissed because that will show just how idiotic some of the things he has said, will say, and would like to say, really are.

I hope he isn't assassinated because he is black or anything. Most republicans seem to be diehard fanatics.
