Rotting teeth photos added to cigarette packs

"LONDON (Reuters) - Gruesome pictures of rotting teeth and throat cancer tumours will appear on all tobacco products in Britain from next month as the government steps up its campaign to encourage the country's 10 million smokers to quit."

What do you guys think? Any smokers here think it's extreme?

Why don't you just roll your own damn cigarettes? I mean, then you don't have to complain about what companies put on the carton, government can't really stop you.. and there isn't as much of a chemical hazard. And you won't smoke as much because it takes a lot of work to make a cigarette.

But I personally think if they really wanted people to stop smoking, they'd start making all cigarettes shit-flavored. Nobody wants to inhale the smell of rotting shit. I mean, what's next? Are they going to start wrapping meat with pictures of slaughtered animals? It's a very grotesque way to get a point across.

Cigarettes smell almost as bad as rotting shit and they make your breath smell awful.

I dated a girl who smoked. Once. I thought I could overlook it. She was cute and interesting. Fact is, I couldn't get over it. The thought of actually kissing her made me ill.

I'm not a fan of scare tactics, though. Forcing me to watch slides of gruesome photographs at Driver's Ed did nothing to slow me down on the road. Cracking an egg in a frying pan and telling me this is my brain on drugs doesn't do anything for me, either. They need an intelligent campaign that provides information and facts. Not scary, frightening stories, but solid facts.

    I am pro-smoking.

Pennsylvania, my home state was trying to, or just passed a state wide ban for smoking in public places (bars, restaurants).

This is ridiculous, especially for privately owned businesses who should have a decision in the matter.

    Gimme a cigarette...

We already had that here in Australia for at least 3 years. I think London is running behind.

Well, people try to hide their smokes a bit better now, it's harder leaving photos of rotting teeth on your work desk for everyone to see. Not sure if it's dettered people, but it did create more effort for smokers and maybe that's what the Governments are targetting.

Having said that I've noticed the amount of smokers in Sydeny has subtantially decreased in the last 8 years. I'm not sure if it was due to this or due to harder smoking regulations in public places or campaigns or all combined, but it's working and I like it that way

I'm all for it. I personally find it absolutely disgusting. It's terrible for you and it smells terrible. I hate having to inhale other peoples smoke on campus all the time. I have no interest in getting cancer.

I also have no problem with banning it in restaurants and bars, I mean it's a harmful and I don't want to die from other people's smoke. So if you want to smoke do it in a designated area or away from others. It's as reasonable as banning people from vaporizing buckets of MEK or some other wonderful carcinogenic solvent in a restaurant. Just as healthy for you too...

So I'm all for banning and getting people to quit. I also hate it when people throw their cigarette butts out their window, like they don't want to bother having it in their car so they litter and it ends up killing countless fish and trashing neighborhoods.

Although I will say I'm not fond of having the pictures put on the packages. It's stupid, instead of trying to scare someone how about you just educate them instead? I believe if you want someone to change you don't scare them, you educate them and persuade them through knowledge and facts.

Then don't go to that restaurant or bar.

The decision should be up to the owner, not up to the government.

If the owner wants to appeal to smokers, than they should be able to serve smokers. Hell, they should be able to serve smokers only if they like.

You're all a bunch of whiny pussies.
