Why do women like to gossip so much?

Some people don't know when to stfu. I hate gossip. Funny though, my ex was one of the largest drama queens in high school. Always getting in little quarrels with other girls and gossiping. I just listened hated talking about all the crap she talked.

Men gossip, but it has a different character to female gossip. I'll give some examples from some recent "gossip" I can recall from my mates.

"Matty's girlfriend talks like a bogan"
"Johnny couldn't come away for a weekend because he couldn't leave his girlfriend. He loves it up here too. What a pussy."
"Samantha is looking a bit ragged these days. She used to be hot."

Female gossip tends to target those areas that females think is important. Stuff like:

"Tabitha is so insecure about her weight. She's obviously not comfortable with herself as a person. That's why she's such a bitch to me."

The other funny thing re: gossip is I was with a girl from work the Friday night before last. Every one in the office has been coming up to her and asking her about it and wanting more information. Not one person has said a word to me! I wonder what that means? I've noticed in similar situations, the girl becomes like the spokesperson.
