So I don't really know how to read that exchange. My first instinct is that it's a negative response and I should leave it there. I mean if a girl want's a date she's going to cancel a barbecue. I wouldn't entertain the idea of driving an hour north to meet her because that would be slovenly.

I don't know CB. Maybe she really wants to go to this BBQ and it's too late to cancel on her friends. (I know mine would give me hell for cancelling). And she mentions catching up when you get back so that seems like a good sign.

I don't think it's negative. Maybe she's just trying to take it slow as well.

Don't tweak, CB. She's down to earth, right? That means she's not going to change plans to go on a date, even with you. it's not necessarily a rejection.

Since you haven't established a dating relationship, she may have only considered your invite to be platonic. Don't stress yet. Ask her again in about a week, and ask her for a date further in advance than a couple of days.

Relax, CB. This girl sounds like she can set boundaries and knows what she wants. Also, sounds like she made a prior commitment & that's important to her. She was polite to you even tho you put some pressure on her (yep, its obvious--careful there).

I can see why you like her. These traits are good ones but you won't be able to push her around, I think. Steady on, young man.

yes, you're right I suppose I was a bit pushy. I guess once I make a decision like that I get impatient to just make it happen.
