I'm so embarrassed how do I get past this?

So I had this weird stroke of infatuation for one of my best friends, a girl. I couldn't eat, sleep, I was just giddy with this stupid crush. It hasn't ever happened to me before, so I thought I should pay attention.
So when she posted a blog that she had a crush too(yes we're adults, and yes, she used the word crush) I responded. I was so sure it was me she was talking about.
    Well it wasn't.
And now things are just awkward and weird, and to make things worse I'm pretty sure our other friends know about it.
Not to mention I'm supposedly straight.
Why this sudden intense infatuation that only lasted two days???
And how do I keep my friend and perhaps a shred of dignity too?
    Ugh.

Just act like yourself and be normal. It should weed itself out in the end.
"Well, then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."

I've hit on a friend of mine before and got rejected. Not a nice feeling and I know it can be quite awkward afterwards. In my case it was a girl, but a lot of people are bi-curious so don't worry about it.
Just ignore it, your relationship with her will probably go back to normal.

It's only weird if you continue to act weird about it.

    How mortifying.

You responded on her blog? In front of everybody? If so, the only answer is to put another post up that reflects good humor and perspective, then just move on with your life.

The bolded part. You should pay attention. Do you know you are a lesbian and use being straight as a front? If not, you should change the scope of your attention to the true objects of your attraction ... girls.

What exactly did you write in your response? What was her post?

having feelings for people who you spend a lot of time with is normal and can sometimes be seen as something more - perhaps it was just a feeling and not a crush perhaps you are ready for a realtionship with someone and since you are obviously quite close to your friend channeled you feelings toward them instead of the open market.
If she is real friend she will understand and you can move past it.
Totally normal - dont blow it out of proportion.

    Thanks!
No, I am not using "being straight as a front", I just go with how I feel, and thusfar this had lead me mostly toward men.
I am not caught up in appearances, I don't care if people think I'm gay, straight, bi...doesn't matter.
As far as how I responded to her post: I just basically called her and told her I felt the same, so not quite as public as a blog. But I'm pretty sure all our friends know about it. Oh well.
Life goes on...its still awkward but getting better.
