"Master Cleanse" (A type of liquid diet)

I don't understand how so many people can get on these stupid diets when there is absolutely no evidence that it rids the body of "toxins". "Toxins" that are never specified for marketing reasons I'm sure.

When something as simple as high fiber diet (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, everything we've been taught since kindergarten), is probably one of the best thing we can do for ourselves to keep us healthy and regular, and "clean".

I've done it. Its good. Tho I don't buy anything commercial, I make it up myself.

Have you tried it, Fras? I was also skeptical, tried it to keep a friend company who wanted to lose weight first time. Now I do it a couple times a year and I always feel better for it.

Fasting of this sort is very ancient. There are several kinds of cleanses you can do. A lemon juice only cleanse is pretty tough for the first one unless you have iron will. I'd suggest a week of raw fruit/vegetable only for anyone considering their first cleanse.

    Indie!

I'm surprised you'd succumb to their logic.

A high fiber diet, coupled with plenty of low sugar liquids is all anyone needs if they're really so worried about what's sitting in their intestines. The more meat and high processed foods the less pleasant your shit will be.

One of the girls at work is on that diet. She bought this $80 kit. She's suppose to drink her food for the next five days.

I'm going to ask her how she's going, thanks for reminding me.

See, the trouble is that word 'diet'. A cleanse is not for weight loss.

Fras, I was skeptical too. But I did some reading and learned that fasts of this kind are quite ancient & commonly practiced by various monks and yogis.

I also happen to drink a lot of coffee and tea. Also some wine. My personal reasons for doing a cleanse a couple times a year is b/c I want to break any potential addictions my body may have. I also love salt, usually in the form of fast carbs like crackers and fresh bread. Its just my personal philosophy, but I want my brain to rule my body and not the other way around so I use the 10 day cleanse to 'break' my body from those things.

Miso, I don't find the hunger so bad. Its the damn caffeine withdrawl headache. Tho by end day 3, both of those are pretty much over.

EDIT: here Fras, start reading here & then decide for yourself

Kits are a waste of money. Fresh lemons, maple syrup, cayenne pepper is all you need. A laxative tea (with senna) for before bed. And a couple big water bottles.

I don't do the saltwater flush, tho. Drinking salt water makes me sick.

That's what I think as well. I lose weight the old fashioned way. It works well for me.

I don't get it, why not just stop or reduce drinking or eating the things you consider unhealthy?

Also, a lot of these people that do this master cleanse bullshit are doing it because they think there are toxins in their bodies and intestines that they're flushing out, which is not the case. The people that sell this shit are the equivalent of modern day witch doctors.

actually if you don't eat or eat very very easy to digest food for a while your digestive system starts digesting the nasty stuff built up on it.

    What nasty stuff?

Someone please clarify what this "nasty stuff" is.

    Nasty stuff = toxins?

These toxins that nobody can seem to define?

I have not found a single reputable source of material that supports the use of these cleanses to rid the body of these mythical "toxins" or "nasty stuff".

None of my medical books consider it healthy, nor have I ever heard any physician or nurse I work with advocate in their favor. They cause electrolyte imbalances.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
