My dad was a total dork in school as well, but he has an uncanny sense of communication, and total lack of fear with dealing with people.
He once told me about his challenge he had with his friends, to date every single girl in his high school at least once or twice. (Few dates here and there.)
I think when he graduated, he had dated almost 80% of the female population his class.
