Even so, it's difficult for women to get into trades.

The kind of men you find a jobsites can be pretty hostile, whether directly, or indirectly.

So unless you're ugly, old, or just all around unattractive, be ready for some hardship.

Honestly, though, not all tradework is what it used to be, besides maybe concrete work, that's some backbreaking work. Otherwise, with the invention of power tools, and modern techniques and materials, it just ain't the same.

Most women can't do that kind of thing for themselves (or at least, believe they can't, or are disinterested), so therefore a man who CAN brings something valuable to the table.

    Plus, they have manly hands.

    You'd say it's a physical thing Fras?

I mean like: men are naturaly more build to do heavy duty labour than women?

Or is it more a judgemental, society based thing?

Well then why were you dissing it then? Here is a couple that lived a happy life together for 83 years, why say it's bad? People should be happy for them. They are an example that should be encouraged and followed.

    It's both.

Though the physical aspect is less important now for the reasons above.

Also, there's not only the prejudices towards women, but there's also bound to be cases of sexual harassment. And even if there's not, men simply want to ogle women. Anytime an attractive women bends over or whatever, men will stop what they're doing to look. Therefore, employers don't want the distractions.

General contractors here often hire illegal females (often attractive) to clean up job sites. Men will stop and talk to them any chance they get, more so if they can speak their language.

Plus, regardless of how tough a woman may think they are, put a dirty, smelly, graffiti-ed port-o-potty in front of them and see how long they last.
