Where to meet women?

I'm a shy, 24 (almost 25) year old guy. Relatively good looking, a bit over weight (I have, however, been working out 3 times a week for the past year now). I live at home with my parents, have a steady job and a pretty nice vehicle. I'm a pretty easy going guy, don't smoke, rarely drink and don't do drugs.

Most of my guy friends are already married. Really don't like the bar scene (most (NOT ALL) people in a bar are not high quality...sorry, a generalization, but my opinion). Club music is too loud and I cannot dance worth a damn. Never done online dating, seems like a desperate thing to do or is it? I mostly focused on schoolwork in college and for the past 2 years after college, I have been working towards getting a technical certification in Microsoft products. I'm now ready to date, but I never have dated and never had a girlfriend.

So, I need a good boot in the ass from you all to tell me to step up the plate and start asking women out. Or at least give me some ideas.

Sorry, I wrote that thinking of it in a funny regard, read it again and it sounded nasty, read it again and it sounded mean. I'd tell ya but I wouldn't know where to go if you have the intention of looking for women in mind.

Hey, I had another idea...I work on a help desk at my company and I help a lot of people out there and know a lot of people by name and in person (I also work the on-call rotation). I was thinking about calling people and asking if so-and-so is single or if they know any single people. Seems like a sound and discreet way of doing things.

Of course, I would only do this with people I "know really well" personality wise.
