Hi

First off sorry if this isn't in the right forum.

I was wondering, on the leaflet that comes with the pill it says not to take if you think you're pregnant. If you do take it and you are pregnant any one know the effects?

Also if you take it before the first day of your period? The problems with that?

The reason i'm asking is because my gf is a week late with her period, and we're a little worried because she's normally regular as clockwork so thinking something's wrong (not necessarily pregnant).

I think it can do pretty serious damage to the baby. If f-cks with your hormones, which is really dangerous during pregnancy

Ah right, i thought it would mess things up, thing is would it cause a miscarriage? and then if not pregnant would it mess her hormones up even more?

just had a quick look, doesn't look like it causes a miscarriage much, but does cause birth defects. Anyone verify this?

What pill are you talking about? You mean a birth control pill? Or a morning after pill?

It's easy enough to go buy a pregnancy test. Why don't you just do that, rather than worry?

I was taking the contraceptive pill when i fell pregnant with my son. I didnt know i was pregnant until nearly 3 months as everything was like clockwork(and i never missed a pill). During that time i took the pill normally.

I think it depends, because some are progesterone and some are estrogen based? Have her talk to her doctor. You certainly don't want to get a false reading from an at home preggo test (they rarely fail but still...), and wind up doing some harm. The dr can run some blood tests that'll tell you a lot sooner.

The pill is supposed to simulate the hormonal state of pregnancy, which is why it suppresses ovulation.

Its not likely to hurt the baby but I wouldn't continue to take the drug until you are sure you aren't pregnant. It certainly won't terminate a pregnancy. Get a test like Vash says, or go see your doc.

I think the incidence of birth defects due to taking the pill while pregnant is scant. Still, if you THINK she might be pregnant, go buy a pregnancy test. they are cheap, and your girlfriend will know right away to stop taking the pill.

so you were having sex with her- she told you(or you thought and she let you) she was on the pill so took no other protection?!!!!!!
