I'm not a newbie in life, I'm 44 years old. Tell me, where are all the prostitutes that service these frustrated women who aren't getting enough sex? Why is the vast majority of porn targeted at men, either straight or gay?

Economics 101: supply and demand. Women generally don't have to pay for sex, because the supply of willing men greatly exceeds the demand of willing women. And men often pay, because the demand of willing men greatly exceeds the supply of willing women.

Another place you can check: the adult services ads at Craigslist. And, not that you would do such a thing, but if you placed an ad at Craigslist under Casual Encounters, I'm sure you could get 50 pictures of penises within an hour or so. Most men are obsessed with sex, to a degree that most women can't easily imagine. As one comedian put it, "If women knew what we men were really thinking, they would never stop slapping us."

If women are just as interested in sex as men, then 50% of all prostitutes, strip clubs, and porn should be targeted at women, but even a brief glance at reality shows that isn't the case. Sure, men might be more interested in variety, but I sincerely believe they are also more interested in quantity. In general. Obviously there are outliers at both ends of the spectrum.

For men, it's not usually about lack of access to sex - it's about variety. Those guys visiting whores aren't necessarily not getting it at home; rather they may not be getting it with 20 year olds any more. or maybe their wives have normal boobs, and they want to touch fake ones. Or maybe their wife is blond and they want to try a red head. or maybe they want to get a blow job from a black woman, or maybe their wife is clean-looking, and they want to feel nasty by doing a skanky, tattooed crack whore.

I wouldn't have said variety. I would have said it was about feeling powerful. I think the guys are flattered and made to feel empowered by those slightly trashy women. I think this explains perfectly why the flings are rarely the social or physical equal of their wives. Ask any married man the last time his wife made him feel *powerful*? Especially successful men, who are often married to women who are successful in their own right.

Ok, so this post will be full of speculation about people who I only know through tabloid magazines. I know this is ridiculous, but using celebrities as an example is easier since everyone knows them, so bear with me.......

Please don't use celebreties as an example. They live in a world completely different to ours. Fame brings choice and power, it twists the perception, regular people don't have to face up to problems like that.

If you want to compare, take examples from the real life and from real people, you will find they are a lot more grounded.

I don't know if this is a good example. I think this could just because it is harder for men to get laid, so they have to go to prostitutes, strip clubs and porn. Even the fugliest woman could get sex for free. They guy might not stick around for long afterwards, but he would still hit it. Women just don't have to pay.

In the cases where this happened to people that I know, both of the wives made more money than their husbands.

That's a good point too indi although i still think its' mostly about variety. That's why guys always fantasize about being with different women, trashy or not. The trashy ones just make things easier! lol

I think that sexual interest for women is more widespread than you might think, Vinnie. Women are not socialized to be as open about being consumers of sex and porn. While men have a whole "dude" culture built around sex, and celebrated by magazines like Playboy and Maxim.

There are also very conflicting messages about female sexuality out there. Just look at this thread. Lets face it, it doesn't take too long for people to start throwing around the word "whore" or "skank" when discussing women and sex. How many men does a woman have to sleep with to be considered a "skank?" Probably not that many by alot of people's standards. The same number for a guy wouldn't turn a head. Women are disproportionately demonized for their promiscuity. So who could blame them for being more discrete about sexuality.

P.S. I have to say how glad I am that this thread is staying so civil. A month or two ago a thread like this would have probably been closed by now because certain people couldn't refrain from trashing the entire female species in a debate.
