Get a police report and have copies handy all the time should someone start racking up some bills in your name and collection calls start coming your way. I work in an office that deals with medical collections/garnishments. I hear daily people telling me how they never have been to the particular hospital I'm talking about, nor even been in that state yet lo and behold someone's using their ssn # and dob and racking up medical bills. It sits on their credit reports for years and years unless there is proof of stolen identity. We always need a copy of the police report before we can even help them.

Cancel all credit cards. Maybe let your bank know too in case someone tries to pass checks. My purse was stolen a few years ago but there was no money in it so the bratty kids just dumped off my purse in an alley. Some good samartians tracked me down about a week later.

    Good luck.

Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

thank you Queenie, I cancelled the cards that I could remember. He already made tons of charges on them. The dude is caught on camera. not sure if that will help much.

Son of a bitch. That's low.

In the future, make photocopies of every card in your wallet, front and back, so you can easily call every number right away.

If you tell the bank that charges to credit cards were made after they were stolen, then won't charge it to you. You should go to police and make a report, but mainly for financial reasons, if it will be needed by the bank. Don't expect for police to actually do anything about it. I had my wallet stolen once from the place where I worked, the guy was captured on the security camera. I gave the video to the police and they did nothing with it. They didn't even get back to me.

Only carry what you need/use on a daily basis.

    No social security cards.

When you get your driver's license, get a second if they allow you, or at least a state ID that you leave at home.

Don't carry around the credit cards you don't use frequently, if at all.

Keep your bank numbers saved in your phone, and photo copying your cards is a great idea.

If you're not sure if your wallet was misplaced or stolen, just take a few minutes to call your bank(s) to make sure, and as a precaution put a lock (don't cancel) them until you find them.

I no longer carry a wallet anymore because it's so easy to misplace. I just carry my cash and cards in my back pocket.

Damn, that sucks. I hate people.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

You should ALWAYS keep your SS# and ID separate. My SS card is in a drawer at home and my ID is in my wallet at all times.

You can just get your account numbers changed, you don't have to cancel any cards. I left my wallet on the counter of an extremely busy bar/club last summer. I just had the account numbers changed, I never carry cash and I don't have any credit cards in my wallet, so it wasn't much more than a headache in the end.
