Unless you can express a positive tone in a text, it doesn't hurt to throw in a smile or what have you at the end of your text.

I don't use them here on the forum because I can articulate my attitude, even if it's sarcastic.

Sometimes the only response I need to my g/f's texts can simply be a smile.

This may be a bad example given the circumstances, but the recent texts I have been getting often include a smiley - just a simple one, : - ) and it never comes across as feminine.

When I stop and think about it, I agree that the use of emoticons is kind of girly. A smiley face showing a happy emotion isn't exactly masculine

Generally, any text abbreviations annoy me, too. It really isn't very hard to spell out "you".
