[News] YouTube Hacked By 4Chan

It is being reported that YouTube, the most popular video sharing web site on the internet was hacked by a group calling themselves 4chan.

Accessing a loophole in the site’s comment system hackers were able to inject their own code resulting in them redirecting certain music videos of Justin Bieber as well as redirecting people to porn sites.

Twitter was buzzing with news of the hack and Google engineers wasted little time in identifying the issue and dealing with it.

Within an hour of the attack, Google disabled the commenting feature on YouTube, which allowed them then to take the time to find the bug and fix it.

The hackers in question are not fans of Justin Bieber, and have launched numerous internet follies with his downfall in mind.

Maybe nick can translate the significance of this for those of us who aren't computer geeks?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

    Google should offer them jobs.

The significance is none because it's already fixed and they didn't get any information from the users, they were simply able to redirect (same thing that happens when you click a link) people to porn sites instead of the videos they wanted to watch.

    [sarcasm] ha-ha so funny. [/sarcasm]

Some guys at 4chan should grow up... they are obsessed with porn and fart jokes being funny.

Actually, I wouldn't if I were Google, because what they did is a pretty pitiful "hack"... what worries me is that youtube didn't have defenses against that.

Most programmers know how to exploit vulnerabilities in web sites, because it's easy. The difference between a /b/tard and someone who works at Google is simply their motivation to sit there for 12 hours in order to find the bugs.

The best thing to do is to simply use a decent public/private key encryption algorithm for sensitive data, and then a solid hashing algorithm (usually implementable even by retards) for really sensitive data to make sure the users don't get fuçked.

Besides, with a good enough backup system, it's trivial to restore the entire web server and its data to an earlier point in time (pre-hack). Even Indi could do this.
