Guitar amps

Ok, so I just got a guitar and need an amp. My question is this: Are 'modeling' amps worth the money? Does anyone here own a Vox Valvetronix VT15 by any chance?

When I buy anything that I am serious about I try to buy middle of the road or higher so that I don't have to ditch an "entry level" piece of equipment later when my skill level increases. Is the VT15 a good buy and something that will suit me for a long time? Keep in mind that I plan on playing privately.

I've used a Marshall amp before I switched to Vox and I only did that because the guitar shop near me was all out of Marshalls. I thought I'd regret it, but I actually found Vox to be more customizable and with a much cleaner sound. And now I just love it to death. I've never used VT15 (I have one of the AC30 clones), but Vox is a great brand and I think you can't go wrong with it. Do a bit more reasearch on the model (personally I'd go with something in the 30s range, they have more oomph).

I've used a 15-watt amp once a long time ago when I first bought a guitar, but I didn't really like the sound. It felt like it was missing something, so ever since then I've always gone for at least a 30-watt one. Though, that 15-watt amp was from a no name brand and this was years back, maybe since then they've become a bit better (one would hope).

Back when I played electric guitar, I stuck with modeling amps, though I used tubes and half stacks before. In fact, I have a 60 watt Epiphone, very high quality with a 12" speaker than I am trying to get rid of. They discontinued manufacture last year. I bought it back in 2006. I only play classical now, so I want to sell the amp because it takes up a lot of space.
