how long for marriage proposal?

how long is a normal time before some one proposes marriage to someone here in western culture???

ok lets say if i date a white girl for 6 months and we really like each other and understand each other on every level, can i propose marriage after just 6 months of dating?? is that really soon??

The problem is that there are no such rules in modern Western culture. 6 months is on the short-side of the bell curve, but not unheard of. A couple years in more common for a formal proposal, though by then there has often been some informal talk of marriage.
