    Why do people kiss?

I've been wondering this for quite some time. What is kissing all about? Why do people do it? Why do they enjoy it?

Because it feels good. Because it makes us feel close to our mates. Because it shows our mates that we like/love them. Because it makes us feel aroused and is a nice part of foreplay.

Our lips are very sensitive, our faces are intimate parts of ourselves. And that's why kisses are the way we get close, as oposed to rubbing elbows or something.

    Thanks for reply

I thought it would be something like that. I find it difficult to imagine how it feels good though.

I kiss because then the woman resists less when I take off her pants.

    ... I kid, I kid.

It's a very intimate behavior. It makes you feel cared for and desired. It causes wonderful reactions in your body and mind, releasing hormones and such that make you feel good. It's fun and you can do it anywhere. Kissing rocks. If I had to choose between sex with no kissing or kissing with no sex for the rest of my life, I'd choose kissing without missing a beat.

So, women need kissing to become aroused? The sight of attractive body or a pretty face is usually enough for me

Why would you? Isn't sex just as emotional and intimate as kissing or even more so? Then there is the intense pleasure you get. I have always felt that sex is the ultimate way of showing affection. It's a bit hard for me to compare as I haven't experienced either, but I have never had the desire to kiss someone I've had a crush on.

Why in the world would kissing and sex be either/or? You can kiss when sex is not logistically possible, you can kiss leading up to sex and you can kiss during sex. Sex can be very intimate, but it is a lot less intimate if kissing isn't involved.

Do "women" "need" kissing to become aroused? No, I can certainly get aroused without a single kiss. But men and women can kiss to heighten arousal and as one tool during foreplay to increase desire.

When you say you don't have a desire to kiss, are you talking just lip kisses? What about kisses given and received on the neck and chest, etc? Still no interest?

I believe that Gratedwasabi was hypothetical as there is no real world situation where one would have to choose. His point might have been that he enjoys kissing even more than sex or something along those lines.

I was indeed talking about lip kisses. I don't think receiving kisses on neck or chest would feel especially arousing to me, but if a woman enjoys it I would give her kisses anywhere she likes.

It's not that I have no interest. In fact, I started this thread because I am interested. I'd love to try it just to learn what it is like. I just find it strange that some people can do it so passionately while I have never even felt the desire for it.

I don't know. I think kissing is more of love thing then a sex thing. I've only kissed once with someone I didn't really want to.

I understand Gratedwasabi's statement just fine. I was confused by your opinion that sex is "just as intimate or more so than kissing." Because in reality, kissing is part of what makes sex intimate. You could theoretically have sex with someone without ever speaking a word or exchanging a kiss or even making eye contact...and then sex wouldn't be very intimate at all.

I don't think Gratedwasabi was saying he likes kissing even more than sex, he was saying that sex without kissing would be missing quite a bit. Kissing without sex would be better than sex without kissing if one had to choose...but both is infinitely better and luckily that is more the default position.

I am still confused about your opinion, OP. If you are attracted to a girl, do you want to touch her with your hands? Would you enjoy that? Your lips are more sensitive than your hands, those touches will feel just as good or even better. And in reverse, would you enjoy being touched by a woman you find attractive? The touch of her lips will be a touch, as well.

Really? I have a very hard time imagining sex that isn't extremely intimate even without kissing.

Yeah, that's more likely what he was saying. But if I had to make the choice, I would coose sex. It seems to have all the good sides of kissing (like the intimacy, though you seem to disagree on that) but it also has the pleasure. I couldn't imagine anything more satisfying than giving such pleasure to the one I love.

Yes, I would enjoy that. You make good arguments in favor of kissing. Now that I think of it, I probably would like kissing her just as much as touching her

At some point in your life you'll find yourself horny, a drunk and willing girl nearby, and you'll bend her over and get it done. Sex without kissing or without meaning is very much not intimate, it's basically like jerking off (ie it's pretty bleh.)

It's hard to explain if you haven't witnessed it. Sex isn't like pornos. It's awkward (no matter how "good" you are, when sweaty bodies come in contact awkward things happen,) messy, and sometimes just a chore, to be frank (everyone..EVERYONE..has times when they're exhausted, not into it, but go through the motions to please their partner.. and it ruins the luster.) I was kind of like you before I had sex, really put it on a pedestal. Then you have sex and realize that without strong emotional ties it's basically just jerking off.

Kissing to me is never awkward. It's close and intimate and fun and flirty, it builds anticipation (the best part of sex) and it's always different and can convey feelings much better then sex. Sometimes you have quick kisses to say hello, long deep kisses to say I missed you, sometimes playful kisses that say how much you want each other, gentle kisses for comfort, etc. Sex is sex, no matter the position; you stick your dick in and hump her. Sure, you've got foreplay and kinks and shit, but in the end that's what you're doing.

I'm not sure if I could do that. I don't think I could detatch myself emotionally which would bring me too much pain afterwards (once she sobers and rejects me or just keeps getting drunk and get laid with others). Besides drunken women turn me off.

On the other hand, by the time that happens I might just be too desperate to decline

Wouldn't the same apply for kissing? Kissing eachother without emotion is like wiping ones mouth with a drool soaked towel... or something just as boring.

You'll see. You're just like I used to be, over romanticizing sex when it's really not that romantic by itself. You'll have sex with someone you care about, break up at some point, and your opinion of sex will change.

You don't usually kiss without a reason or the desire to. You have sex because you're horny, not necessarily lovey-dovey. Also, if kissing is anything like "wiping ones mouth with a drool soaked towel" you're doing it very, very, very wrong. Kissing is a different type of stimulation then you can give yourself. Sex is different then jerking off but in the end it's your penis getting stimulated.
