    Traveling alone at 16?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I was to travel to New York City, from Toronto, Canada, how difficult would it be?

I am quite a responsible 16 year old, I have the money to pay for the expenses, I just don't know if I could book a hotel for myself. Or will I need to stay over at a relative's?

    Thanks!

When I was your age, I traveled by myself, but I always stayed with a friend/relative. I'm not sure whether you can book a hotel room as a minor, but probably not.

You cannot book a hotel or motel as a minor. At least I'm pretty sure. I've looked it up in the past.

And I don't want to sound like a jerk. But almost every 16 year old out there thinks they're responsible and invincible and the like.

I know what you mean, I know i'm def. not invincible. I wanna meet this girl i've met a bit back, she lives in NYC. I don't know what to do, I just wanna go there now ;\.

Is there anyway to go there, be safe, and be alone?

I think with Hostels, you don't have to be eighteen and over.

And your parents are totally cool with you going to the big city alone? Jeez. At 16, my parents wouldn't even let me go to the movies alone.

I'm pretty sure he'd ask his parents about these things if they were cool with it Not the first teenager to have the idea, just got to wait for the phonecall back home after being stranded in a strange city.

If his parents were okay with it, they could probably book the hotel rooms for him, eh?

Sleep with your friends/relatives, so that it won't cost you anything. =P
What progress, you ask, have I made? I have begun to be a friend to myself.

Don't you have to go through customs? Any rules about a minor crossing the border alone?

Minors can't cross the border alone. Besides, if your parents let you do this they're crazy.

You wouldn't be allowed to cross the Canadian border as you're only 16. 16 is the age of consent in Canada(used to be 14), but it's 18 in the states. The actual travel is easy. A flight is only an hour.

Don't do it unless you have relatives there to pick you up or you are going with a group of friends. You might encounter some unexpected problems that can be potentially dangerous.
