Why do people say that the only dating advice is to be oneself, yet I do this and it doesn't work?

What other option do you have? Either be yourself and attract someone who appreciates your authenticity, and who you are, or put on an act, and attract people who don't know the real you. Being a fraud can only last so long.

I am myself and lately it works. Don't ask me why, that's a mystery lol.
Their not liking you may be related to that thread about the "common knowledge" you started though.

Some people need to do some self-improvement before they are ready for dating. Become a better version of yourself.
