He will probably take you for granted, showing less and less appreciation for bigger and bigger favors.

At what point then is it okay to do helpful things for a partner? I feel like this is a natural part of a love relationship, wanting to do things to ease the other person's life...

No one should be asking for favors early on. No one wants to give the impression of being needy, so if you just started dating and he's already asking you for favors, that's a red flag. Asking for favors comes later, after you've established some sort of bond. You do favors for your boyfriend, not for the guy you've been on 3 dates with.
