To all geeks out there , you've lost another great mind - Dennis Ritchie .

I think he also needs some big respect from all of us, internet users . Cause in the end... He's the one who developed

I don't know much about that programming language, but enough to know that it's very important . Probably more than Ipods and Ipads

    Rest in Peace !

    That's sad.

He had a convincing unix beard.

Maybe not obvious to the layman, his work on C and UNIX has a profound impact on computing as we know it today.

    RIP Dennis.

Wow, really? No one else ? ...
Sad but true. Jobs dies and whole world cries, this guy dies and it's not even making it to the news ... Even the woman who died on the same day as Jackson had more "RIP's" and I can't even remember her name ...

Lipp, I think we discussed already about that problem. See, everyday many people die on the roads, or are murdered, or many die of a cancer and no one dies after them either (actually I think more people die after those kids in Africa than those I mentioned), but in the end they aren't public persons and I'm talking about some great minds...

Btw I'm buying MacBook Pro in november ^^ I actually wanted one long before Jobs died, I just never made it as my target to save money for ... And now my 4 yo Dell is dying so I need to buy something new soon.

And by that logic, since few have heard of or care about Dennis Ritchie, he doesn't count as a "public figure" and thus you have answered your own question as to why no one cares. Full circle!

Nobody here is likely to know who Dennis Ritchie is except me and the_robot.

In college, I signed up for a C programming class. Little did I know I had to know C BEFORE the class started. So I got to college a week early and taught myself C from the famous Kernighan and Ritchie book on C programming.
I have a long time interest in psychology, specializing in relationship dynamics for 30 years.
