Hahaha. Done. I'll add it to my 'to do someday' list. ;-)

This sounds like an undergrad paper topic. I could easily argue that Love is conditional. Or unconditional. Or doesn't exist.

well, I always leaned towards love doesn't exist. so it comes as a surprise to me when mature educated people discuss their unconditional love to their mates on fb

Wait until you have children... love does exist.

It also exists (if you're lucky) with your partner.

Bear in mind that this is only my opinion but:

Love is energy. Physics dictates that you cannot destroy energy, you can only transform it from one state into another... hate is also energy. You can either choose to stop loving someone, or you can transform that energy into hate.

I have enough hate in my life. I choose to not welcome more hate. Some people you can't help but love (like your children) and some people you can decide to hate or love.

Personally, I have enough hate in my life. I have discovered love - true love... and I choose to embrace it. I've become truly happy for the first time in my miserable existence and I choose to stay that way. There are things that my wife (or my children) could to that would make me wish to not spend time with them anymore, but I could not stop loving them.

I think such people are hoping for an ideal. That by calling something 'unconditional' that makes it so. I suppose there is value in that except when it clouds judgement, which it often does, unfortunately. Parental love comes closest, I agree.

The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.
