What are the top 3 professions you would want to date?

I have dated a wide range of guys from multiple professions (doctors, businessmen, bartenders, electricians, lawyers, students, teachers etc) I am curious to see what women think would be the ideal profession for their boyfriend/husband to be and what they would avoid...

    Three top:

    1. Engineer
    2. Teacher
    3. Dentist

    Three I would avoid:

    1. Firemen
    2. Medical doctors (specifically specialists)
    3. Lawyers

Feel free to share any stories!

It would be more interesting to see your rationale for dating/not dating people in those professions.

For the record, I would rather date an MD specialist than a hospital internist. They have more free time.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Anyone of the trades.....I love a man that wears a tool belt
mechanic......has to be a car guy and share my passion for cars
    brew master....love beer

    Wouldn't date:
    interior decorator......doesn't excite me
    hairstylist....I already have one
    police officer.....most are dickheads.

    Hi,

I am new here but was keen and eager to answer your question!

Although I haven't dated men from various professional backgrounds, I actually would feel too intimidated by someone with a career. Perhaps because I would feel as if I must somehow comepete with them in some bizarre way?

I do have a strong desire for recognition myself because I never had that growing up. My first partner who I was with for five years, was exceptionally intellectual and excelled at lots of academic subjects, but it suffocated my own yearning for similiar approval that he received from his friends. Eventually we went our own way, but he had given me a lot of courage and support to achieve my own things and I will always thank him for that.

My preferences of men are complicated to write on here, but I do like builder-types and men who are multi-faceted as oppossed to being disciplined in one area of career. The more well rounded the person, the more attractive they are in my opinion (not eccentric though) yet I can see that a lot of women like a man in unifrom if you ever read those polls on women's preferences!.

Have to agree w/Smackie, tradesmen are great.

    Would date:
    1. Tradesman...down to earth, work hard, don't bring their work home
    2. Teacher...might be intelligent, decent holidays and benefits
    3. Fireman (had my eye on one for years)... hot, responsible, smart... did I mention hot?

    Wouldn't date:
    1. Pilot... never home, erratic schedule
    2. Paramedic or policeman... same as above, often issues (cops)
    3. Lawyer... evil, devil spawn (most, not all)

I agree with vashti. You should at least put a cliff notes as to the thought process behind it, or perhaps actual experience.

    Top 3:
    1. Psychologist - Psychology is my passion, and I love talking to people who share this interest. Plus, it would mean that he is caring and enjoys helping people.
    2. EMT/Paramedic - A really hot one saved my life once, and I've had a thing for them ever since, lol. They also have to enjoy helping people, and are less likely to be stuck-up than a doctor.
    3. Musician - Hot!!!! And I actually really enjoy having time away from my significant others, because then we don't get sick of being around each other all of the time, and I get privacy.

    3 I would avoid:
    1. Butcher - I'm a vegetarian and love animals, so ew!
    2. Cop - They make me nervous
    3. Minister - I would always be afraid of accidentally offending him...

    Love to Date?

    1. Mechanic
    2. Tailor
    3. Machinist

    Hate to Date?

    1. Carpenter
    2. Plumber
    3. Smith

Why? I am a competent (ok, damned good) carpenter, a decent plumber and a competent smith. I know jack shit about fixing cars (though I'm a decent bicycle mechanic) I'm horrible at sewing and I'm south of competent in machining.

I want a woman that complements me, bolsters where I'm weak and is appreciative of where I'm strong. You want a structure or piece of furniture built out of wood? I'll do it. You want a new fixture plumbed in or piping designed/replaced? No problem. You need a piece of metal in a certain shape and size? Can do.

Sew you something? Go **** yourself.
