Rep and IM questions

2 questions:

1) What is reputation? I see I have 44 points in my profile, but what does that pertain to? The green pips under the login name when posting?

2) Is it possible to get a copy of "sent messages" automatically created? Sometimes I forget what I said when in a private thread with someone and it is forever gone.

1) i believe there is some use of the rep.. currently, i only know you get more 'green bar' when someone rep you up. Probably because of the valuable advice given from you.
2) Under Profile > My account > general settings , you can set:
Sent Private Messages: Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default
