It's horrible. Had to turn my sound off because it kept telling me I had mail. And the hyperlinked words are so distracting. Will be having second thoughts about the site if it stays.

hm, I don't see the same things B&T does, I only see the ad bar at the top. No hyperlinks or "you've got mail" for me.

What browser are you using Basil?

It's awful. The flashing ad at the top makes my eyes hurt... I've logged off the site a couple of times because of it - it's actually driving traffic away.

Advertising is inevitable but if it is distracting, over baring, and all over the place, you will loose people. This is what happened to the last site I was on. It's a dead site now, we had all left within months of it starting, and I'm afraid if not done carefully it will happen to this site.

BTW I miss the latest posts on the side...I used that a lot.

Come to think of it the same thing has happened to this other site that I moderate. They tried selling it because it wasn't getting the traffic anymore. Just too many ads.

    Cool story bro.

I don't mind ads as long as they are NOT placed between each post. If you keep them to the top of the thread then that would be okay, IMO.

I'm using IE. Can't remember which version, but it's a current one

The hyperlinked words in posts went away almost as soon as I mentioned it. Don't know what was going on there.

The 'you've got mail' thing was one of the new ads at the top of the page. All flashing and blinking and talking to me. Yuck

Is the 'new posts' option broken or disabled? I didn't realise how much I used it till now.

Possibly related to the ad engine or not, but lately clicking on Latest Post in a thread doesn't actually take one to the end of the thread and the latest post.

Unless you go clear your cache, then it works.

Really? But nooo! I loves my cache: I have a ton of links I use my little browser bar shortcuts for but which aren't worthy of putting on my Bookmarks bar..my cache!

IE is very vulnerable to virus/hack..
google chrome or even mozilla firefox is a better choice nowadays.
