Same goes for if you compare us today to Germany (most places in Europe, actually), Japan, most places in South America, etc.

Well, duh; you shouldn't even really be comparing older societies. Compare America to its own history and you'll find it is not more desexualized by 'Murrica's standards.

It's a relevant comparison. People who argue that we're all whores and "too sexual" need to look outside of our culture for a wake up call. The problems that many of us try to attribute to our sexuality are problems that do not apply in other cultures that are far more sexual than we are. For example, many people like to blame the amount of infidelity within marriage on how much free love takes place in America and how excessively sexual we are. Yet a places like Germany and Spain are far more sexual than America with far more free love and far less inhibition of sexuality taking place and yet their rates of infidelity are much, much lower than ours.

Infidelity is subjective it seems. You're not being unfaithful or practising infidelity if everyone knows about everyone else and extracuricular lovers are agreed to. I suppose to people in an open relationships, infidelity would occur if the primary partner wasn't aware of said lover.
