Date with my neighbor

So i went to the movies with my neighbor. I have lived here for two months, she vascilates between gregarious and then guarded/cautious when we have talked in the past.

1. During the date she tried to pay for her movie. I insisted on paying.

2. She mentioned inviting her roomate but her roomate could not come because she had class.

Are those signs that she was telling me this is not a date?

Today I knocked on her door and asked her to go get coffee with me. She was not hostile but not smiling like she used to. She more resembled the guarded/cautious person. She told me she went for a walk, was tired and making dinner. All legitimate reasons not to go with me but I still felt pretty bad. Any pointers ladies?

Probably because you insisted on paying for the date.

Which is probably because she didn't think it was a date.

I told myself not to pursue her, but after a few months I just couldn't take it anymore. Maybe I hesitated and killed attraction.

This was a date as long as it hand a settled time to meet :-)

Seriously the issue is not wether it was a date, but if it will lead somewhere... Calm down a bit make her feel relaxed and try again at the right momentum.
