The value of relationships today

Honestly, sometimes I just can't help but to question if people today even care to take relationships seriously anymore. I see so many people with broken hearts today all over the place as if it's a new trend. I myself were one of those people at a point in time. Coming from someone who yes, will admit that he has trouble with "letting go", I just have to ask... what is it? Does the idea of of an old fashioned relationship where both people actually care about making it work appear as the "not cool" type of thing to these days? I means seriously, I hate to say it but I'm almost starting to lose hope for my own generation as far as relationships go.
