Anyway, while everyone here is making cute book suggestions, has anyone (other than Indi, apparently) considered that the solution to a 13-year-old girl's alcoholic father-induced anxiety disorder isn't a fucking novel?
Im obviously trying everything to help her-not just a book. She talks to me about everything, were v close. Ive told my dad how it affects her and he has cut down but her anxiety stems from the time he fell which she cant get over.

It's actually 5.33 12oz. beers daily (2 32oz cans) and it's nearly 6%... so yeah, about the same as three big glasses of wine. I have trouble sleeping during the day, and sleep-aids don't seem to work for me very well.

My BMI is within the normal range for my height, and I'm turning 45 in a couple of months... What percentage of people in my age bracket in the U.S. can say that?

But yes, every day. I've got an addiction. I've got a couple actually... but I don't let my addiction control me, or wreck my life. So I like beer a little too much - again, so what? People are way too damned uptight in North America about that sort of thing. If I said in virtually any country in Europe that I had 4 beers a day (their beers being bigger), they'd say "So what?" Heck, I've seen Germans putting down that many at lunch before going back to work.

I'm addicted to air, my son, my fiancé and caffeine. Though I like to do a cleanse from time to time to prove to myself I don't *need* coffee...

    Bullshit. Stimulants are fantastic.

I do that periodically with alcohol.

    What does crack feel like?

Similar to d-amphetamine, except more intense. Lasts 20-30 minutes instead of 4-8 hours. Leaves you craving more. Awful drug; only did it once.

Ugh. Sounds awful. I'll stick to adrenaline, alcohol and caffeine, thanks.

Alcohol is really the worst of the lot. Let's pick this one apart.

First of all, the active-to-lethal dose is comparable to that of heroin. Alcohol intoxication is a very real thing. It psychologically impairs you to the point of truly being capable of putting others in danger. Source: drunk drivers. Alcohol causes roughly 100,000 deaths per year.

Despite all of this, the effects aren't even all that pleasant. It dehydrates you, sometimes leads to sickness and vomiting, causes significant sleep disruption, and headaches!

The only real defense I hear for alcohol is, "in low quantities it's good for the heart."

Fine. In small, occasional quantities, you may receive slight benefits. But you do this at the expense of your liver and whatever else it
    decides to fuck up.

You know how else you can get cardiovascular benefits? By getting your fat ass off the couch and going for a jog.

I'll stick to LSD, mushrooms, marijuana, and amphetamines, thanks.

Introduce her to Ala-teen. Its free and there are young adults in the same position. You could go with her as her family support system as well.

There is all kinds of literature published by the Ala Non Family Groups as well. Even a visit to a meeting to get some of their publications will help her (and subsequently you as well) to cope better.

I don't like the smell of marijuana and I don't like to smoke. Its been years since I've done a bong but I do remember it being very good for my headaches. I do enjoy the smell of a beautifully aged Bordeaux.

I agree about the exercise. Ie. adrenaline (at least for me).

    Exercise reduces adrenaline and cortisol.

When I'm flinging myself down a skihill, there's plenty of adrenaline.
