I'm not sure our governments would get away with drafting people anymore....I think there would be so many conscientious objectors that jail would no longer be the answer.
Anyway, I would encourage him to resist.Never regret anything that has happened in your life. It cannot be changed, forgotten or undone. So, take it as a lesson learned and move on.
