I know fully well that girls play this game and I'm inclined to say men don't, but do guys ever use their female friends to gauge if another girl is interested in him? I e he isn't romantically interested in her, but wants to see how you react to her being there with him or if the girl he has a crush on would ask if he's dating her?
And if this guy says to me "she's a friend, we've just been hanging out" should I believe him and continue to show interest in him or give up?

Yeah I mean I've done that a few times when I was younger. Guys can use whatever other girl is around at the time to see how a girl they're interested in reacts to it. I'd like to say we eventually grow out of playing such stupid games but I know a few guys in their 30s who still pull shit like this.
And as long as you haven't seen or heard anything to the contrary of him just being friends with this other girl then I don't see why you shouldn't believe him. Just you know.. be careful and keep your guard up for awhile.

This is common in PU. To bring up a mans value to a woman, he surrounds himself with other women. It plays on the concept that it triggers interest, by making them wonder why those women want to be with him.
