That doesn't mean anything in terms of cheating. All that means is that men are still making the first move and taking the initiative to ask a girl out which is still the norm as it always has been. If I were to set up a dating profile- I would just write about myself on the profile, post a few pics and come back 24 hours later to check my inbox.. id then just delete all the messages from topless men etc in about ten seconds and narrow it down to about 5 men and then decide which ones seem worth my time..

lol ive never even been on a dating site but I would just sift through the garbage quickly-delete, delete, delete, next, next, next until I find people who seem serious

As far as cheating goes: most cheaters cheat with people who are also in a relationship. I do think men are at a slightly higher % due to sex addiction/prostitution etc but in general its nearly equal. Women can be just as bad or worse than men. And I am saying this as a woman who has never cheated but plenty of girls I know have.

I never mentioned cheating. Technically, the OP isn't really cheating. What I was referring to was the relatively recent phenomenon of women with multiple boyfriends/lovers. You are probably too young to remember, but several decades ago it was frowned upon for a female to get around so much. Now it is common practice and has even made it to mainstream media. I was commenting that it is much, much easier for a female to do this, if she wished. Although most still chose not to, and I think it is because sex is so easy to come by for them, that they don't give it much value. Whereas for a male, it requires some investment of effort, and therefore worthy of sporting pursuit.

...which is a good thing. Heading towards sexual freedom, that is.

Nah, I don't think this is the reason. I think that if a woman that wants to do so in the first place (there are women who don't, obviously) does not do so, the main reason is still that she would be frowned upon by many. Slut-shaming and all.

Whereas for a male, it requires some investment of effort, and therefore worthy of sporting pursuit.
Again... not really. Males are socialized in such a way as to see women as "conquests", rather than human beings with intention and will. He who "gets" more wins.

We can only hope that we will reach the point in which stupid gender stereotypes have no more hold on us, and we can all enjoy our sexuality as we see fit - as long as it's always amongst consenting adults, of course.

Yeh so it's possible sex means different things to different people but I don't see what makes it recent or remarkable and certainly can't tell how you're able to definitively identify the source of this recent phenomenon. Polyandry is prevalent in more than one primate species.

The fact that you've been exposed to it in contemporary art is of minor significance to the notion that polyandry is a component of the primitive mind. Speaking of primitive, what was frowned upon several decades ago is frowned upon today and may have been frowned upon a thousand years ago but who exactly is frowning and what gives them the right to write the history books?

@ OP: you, Craig, Sam and the company should not confuse love with promiscuity and lack of self control.

The source is my own observation. Yours may be different and you are welcome to write about it if you wish. I agree that polyandry is a component of the primitive mind. It would behoove the primate female ancestor to have sex with as many males as possible to insure pregnancy and possibly that the strongest and healthiest sperm would impregnate her. Whether or not gang rape is included in this is irrelevant. Anyway, I am not taking any side with this because I prefer to observe the dominant trend rather than to try to shape it.

The term frowning on something means to me that society at large does not necessarily condone but allows it to take place nonetheless. Not that I adhere to anything society cares to dictate, but it is still useful to be aware of the dominant paradigm, if for no other reason than to subvert it, if one wishes to do so. As for your last question, I will defer to the words of Winston Churchill who is credited with saying History is written by the victors. Please consult the Prime Minister if you would like further elaboration.

I would only add that I perceive a fundamental difference between deliberately manipulating people or putting ideas in their head and exposing collective archetypes for cultural enrichment.

Well, not that I have any trouble getting sex, but many males do and they become embittered and violent about it. What do you propose be done about those who don't participate in your sexual freedom? Purely rhetorical.
Nah, I don't think this is the reason. I think that if a woman that wants to do so in the first place (there are women who don't, obviously) does not do so, the main reason is still that she would be frowned upon by many. Slut-shaming and all.
That was my point. Slut-shaming is not as prevalent as it used to be. Assuming this is true, then what are the repercussions for male/female relationships in a world where women play a more active role in dating and partnering.

Well, males tend to be more competitive in all aspects, not just women. As a women, you probably only focus on it as it relates to women. But in many cases, the need to extinguish the desire to orgasm is very powerful in males. Which is why porn is so popular among men. Not that I am all that interested in it, mind you.

And my point is that although it is not as prevalent as it used to be, it still is a huge thing. Less than before, but still huge.

Maybe, but I think the concept of slut-shaming is getting systematically eliminated in the younger generations. Who knows, maybe it will lead to more sex for everybody, even the awkward and down-trodden men. If a woman is free to have more than one lover, maybe she will be more apt to experiment with men she would not have considered before.

Yep, let's hope that it will get completely eliminated. For the time being, there is still a lot of it, unfortunately - even in the younger generations.
