Ok, so this guy I've been speaking to for a few weeks told me not so long ago he's in an on off relationship with someone. Although that same day he still showed signs of being interested in me.

I text him a few days later and got a reply although he made no effort to make further conversation, no questions or anything, so I left it.

A week later he texts asking me about something he'd seen me post online, I replied and again I then got a one word message back.

Why does he seem to text every so often but not put in any real effort to have a full conversation? My thoughts are that he's keeping me as an option in case this other thing doesn't work out.

What should I do?

Sorry Jane, I can't see that he's keeping you as an option. If you were an option, he'd be putting in enough work to make you think that you were in with a chance. But this lack of conversation.....he's just not interested in any type of romantic relationship with you.

I think that, you should get over this text messages and meet him personally, not like a date, to know what is going on in his life, when he said that "he is interested in you" , he actually mean it or just attracted to you, by meeting him personally you can see his face expression and can chek weather he is faking, taking you as a option or in real life also he is not that romantic guy,
