I have split up from my husband which was a year ago and have started dating a new guy. We have been dating for 3 months and I'm now struggling with my emotions towards him. We have a great connection, a lot in common but traits from my last relationship are creeping in and I now keep pushing him away. I can't completely let him in without worrying that He won't like me as much when he actually knows everything about me my past. But I think I expect more emotionally from him. I don't think I actually know how to just have a boyfriend?

You can't get more from him emotionally unless you are willing to let him in. You need to free yourself by being open and honest with your BF. Communication is key to the success of any kind of relationship.
