I am listening to a few today, been pensive, I guess and thought maybe others have songs and lyrics that go to when happy, lonely, lost or sad.

- I like both versions by Kate Bush and Maxwell I have heard. The beginning of the song is remindful of wailing of sorrow and pain and it sets the mood and draws me into the verses and song.

God, there's just so many. For different moods, different reasons, etc. One of the ones lately where the lyrics have really meant something to me has been "Hero" by Skillet. I tried to pick out some lyrics, but honestly it is just the whole song. Pasting below for anybody interested.

Fairly recently I went through kind of a rough patch. It took me a while to dig myself out of it, but as I always do, I came out of it stronger than ever. Unfortunately, I've also somewhat given up on people. I don't really think that is such a good thing, but at least some good did come of it.... which is that I've found renewed strength in myself. I've sort of begun to become my own hero. So, to me in a way, these lyrics represent my continued struggle to be my own hero. That I won't let this world change who I am, and I would be willing to lay my life on the line to protect what I feel is right and/or protect the few people in my life who do matter.

Another one that has meant a lot to me lately has been another song by Disturbed. A new one, actually, called The Light. Frankly, I've been going through kind of a dark time in my life lately. I've sort of lost my way. Lost my hope. Lost my hope of finding meaning in this world. Lost my hope of finding love. Lost my hope of feeling like I have any purpose. I'm sort of settling into accepting what feels like my inevitable fate to live an unhappy life and die alone. It's taking everything in me not to just give in to that. Giving up is just not in my nature, so I know eventually I will pull through this.... the unfortunate thing is this time I'm not even sure I WANT to. It feels like what is the point of hope when it only leads to more pain? I can handle pain. I can survive it. I always have..... but that doesn't mean I look forward to enduring it. I'd endure it all happily if it ever felt like it lead to something worthwhile. These days, it is just getting so hard to believe it ever will.

Anyway, this song really touches part of whatever is left of my humanity. It touches the part of me that hopes that maybe the words in it speak some truth. That perhaps it is my darkness that will finally help me to see the light. For me, hope HAS become a memory.... but in time that will change. Just hopefully for once it can actually feel like it is for a reason.
