not sure where I heard this story, but some guy proposed in the cinema, she said yes, and after they watched the movie and got away from all the people, she said no.
However, there's a difference between a guy who does romantic stuff well, and one who does it clumsily, like he read them in a book somewhere.

I think it all depends on the person you are proposing to or trying to be romantic towards. The best kind of romance is personal to you in some way. Like if your partner had a passion for roses then they would likely find a rose romantic. If they're a huge fan of Casablanca then quoting some lines from that would probably be a winner... etc....
Doesn't really work in the case of South Park I'll admit. :D But if someone bent down on one knee to propose during the commercial break between Simpsons episodes, with a donut on a tray, I'd consider that dead romantic! :D

I guess I consider it a GOOD thing if a guy can make me laugh, and doing this owuld make me laugh - but only if I already liked him. Don't make this the way you try to win someone over.

yeah. and don't try to become something you're not. it'll come across fake.
