That totally depends on the situation, his body language, tone of voice, etc. I would be just happy to talk to a new person. I wouldn't start analyzing his reasons for contacting me. After talking to him/seeing him a few times I'd probably be able to tell he was interested, based on his tone of voice, body language etc.
Besides, it's not like you can just approach a stranger and ask them for a date straight away, anyway

There was a girl where i used to work who i really liked. We were in the same office for three years and barely said two words to each other, every day i tried to talk to her or ask her out or something, i mustve come up with a million different things i had planned to say but never did. At one point i even had some stuff written down on my hand to say to her but again went through the day without saying a word to her. Three years i watched her and kept trying to make a conversation with her, but i never did.
Its not like i was planning to have children with her, this was just to ask her for a coffee after work or something, but still i couldnt get the words out. I gave up in the end and she got with someone else and left to work somewhere else.
Im babbling on about that because i thought places like work, college, uni etc were places most people meet. I never thought you just go up to someone randomly and ask them out.
Well, you just have to force yourself. The more you think about it the more nervous you get etc. Next time, just say hi hows it going, what you up to or something, and then ask her if she wants to do something someday.
Just do it. :)
Relax and keep it simple. Just go up to them and introduce yourself by saying "Hi" or whatever (make sure you have something to say after hi!). No need for crazy lines, keep it natural. You can make some small talk and if you want to flirt with her you can compliment her on something you genuinely feel should be complimented.
If you get nervous cuz the girl is really hot, you can do what I used to do back in high school - go google the hottest actress you can think of and keep staring at her picture so that when you talk to the actual girl, she seems less hot in comparison (hey don't laugh at me. i see you laughing. i see you!)

Hi um well i thought i'd give people an update if anyones interested.
Sunday night i was invited to a 18th birthday party, a friend of a friend sort of thing. And basically anyone even slightly connected with the birthday girl was there. And i got talking with her sisters hairdresser lol. I thought i'd take a chance and just spoke to her, i had an instant in though by just asking "so how do you know the birthday girl then?" and that sort of set things rolling and she wants to see me thursday night.
Not really sure theres too much else to tell. I just thought it was only right to give an update given the replies i got for this problem.

the big secret about women is that they're not really that different to guys. there seems to be a big emphasis on how men and women differ as if they're different species but we're all human.
I can understand how you are nervous around women and the only way you can actually get over it is to make yourself talk to them, it gets a little easier every time.
also maybe you should go out and make some more friends. the best way is to do something where you're forced to interact with people, for example voluntary work or even a course. i know it's easier said than done but friends are usually a good means of meeting women

Haha thanks guys. I didnt really know it was a line to be honest, i just thought i'd ask a question, a question which is unlikely to make her reject me instantly. Because theres plenty of time for that.
Well Thursday is freaking me out. She said she'd like to get together to talk more but she didnt use the word "date". So im wondering. What do i wear? Are we talking casual, semi casual, suit? Where do we go? Am i meant to buy a present or flowers or something?

Well after agonising over the outfit i went for something i feel comfortable in, black suit just without the tie. I was feeling reasonably confident. I went to her place to pick her up, despite having her own car she wanted me to pick her up rather than meet somewhere, i guess thats maybe traditional or something.
In case any of you are wondering, she did herself up quite a bit, knee high boots with a black skirt, black top and like a white cardigan thing over the top. she looked very very nice.
We went to a nice little restaurant for dinner and i drove her home and she invited me in and we just basically sat there talking for like two hours before i left.
And thats pretty much it.
