I had a lot of breaking up songs downloaded when I left my bastard ex husband. This is mine and my girlfriend's favorite. We actually changed the name of the song on my iPod to name it after him:
Naked Eyes - Promises, promises
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJP2PH8WKaI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJP2PH8WKaI[/ame]
This one is also very fitting: Beyonce - Me, Myself, and I. It's my new anthem.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw74Wp29HX4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw74Wp29HX4[/ame]
I also like: Alice Keys - Karma
and Shania Twain - It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing
this is my very favorite moving on song.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFeBo8M4RhE&feature=related"]YouTube - The Eagles - Already Gone[/ame]
The one I played over and over was Destiny's Child - Through With Love
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2TlwEBDWN4"]YouTube - The Used - Bulimic ( Lyrics )[/ame]
Works.

She took the last train out of my heart
Hahaha! Dunno why, but this made me want to clap for you, Blue. :DQuote:

Anyway, here's a song that I think is quite beautiful. Its for those difficult 'letting go' types of relationships:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_U6iSAn_fY"]YouTube - Sara Bareilles "Gravity"[/ame]
For me the joy is in the chase so break ups are kind of a positive thing. I'd totally forget about her after playing this:

Lily Allen "Smile"
Fiona Apple "Extraordinary Machine"
Pink "U & Ur Hand"
Reef - Come Back Brighter
Sometimes, the black hole’s inside ya,
But if you can just lighten up yourself,
It will make you stronger,
I won’t be sat here waiting,

Thanks Gribble... you star! ;)
This is an oldie, but a goodie:

times like these - foo fighters
Its a little different than most I think, but I really like Atreyu - Falling Down. Three Days Grace - I hate everything about you is also a good one someone mentioned.
The song that's helping me at the moment is Stronger by the Sugababes, it's really helping me get through my breakup. I've kind of made it 'my' song. It's helping me realise that I don't need anyone and I can get on with my life and be strong on my own. Here are the lyrics:
I'll make it through the rainy days
I'll be the one who stands here longer than the rest
When my landscape changes, rearranges
I'll be stronger than i've ever been
No more stillness, more sunlight,
Everything's gonna be alright
I know that there's gonna be a change
Better find your way out of your fear
If you wanna come with me
Then that's the way it's gotta be
I'm all alone and finally
I'm getting stronger
You'll come to see
Just what I can be
I'm getting stronger
Sometimes I feel so down and out
Like emotion that's been captured in a maze
I had my ups and downs
Trials and tribulations,
I overcome it day by day,
Feeling good and almost powerful
A new me, that's what i'm looking for
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
I didn't know what I had to do
I just knew I was alone
People around me
But they didn't care
So I searched into my soul
I'm not the type of girl that will let them see her cry
It's not my style
I get by
See i'm gonna do this for me
You know what ? We use to say in Poland : The best remedy for love is a new love. :P And I love to listen to the love songs ,especially when I'm fresh in love :) so...
Axwel - I found You
Bel Amour - bel amour
Tamia feat. Fabolous - Into You
great songs, and there is a million like them :)
this is a good moving on song
Robyn ft. Kleerup - With every heartbeat
I would like to repost this one since it is a great song. It pretty much sums up all break-ups into one song. Ya it isnt a song that will liven your spirits but it does kinda talk you through the break up in a way.Quote:

Ive noticed that some more up-beat songs are helpful.
Some songs I enjoy are:
MGMT- Kids
Kevin Rudolf - Let it Rock
Also it isnt a song but I just saw a movie that was very helpful. It gives you hope that you will find someone else great.

It depends on the person as well, and their experiences with the relationship. Certain subtle lyrics in songs can be like "Wow, I totally felt like that!" even though it might not necessarily be about a break-up per say.

Sucker love is heaven sent.
You pucker up, our passions spent.
My hearts a tart, your bodys rent.
My bodys broken, yours is spent.
Carve your name into my arm.
Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed.
Cuz theres nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Sucker love, a box I choose.
No other box I choose to use.
Another love I would abuse,
No circumstances could excuse.
In the shape of things to come.
Too much poison come undone.
Cuz theres nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Sucker love is known to swing.
Prone to cling and waste these things.
Pucker up for heavens sake.
Theres never been so much at stake.
I serve my head up on a plate.
Its only comfort, calling late.
Cuz theres nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Like the naked leads the blind.
I know Im selfish, Im unkind.
Sucker love I always find,
Someone to bruise and leave behind.
All alone in space and time.
Theres nothing here but what heres heres mine.
Something borrowed, something blue.
Every me and every you.

I'm totally inexpirienced at the whole love thing.. Only had one boyfriend and I hated it. I never want to love again, afraid to get hurt again I guess. He asked me out and pretty soon, I was in deep, I fell so hard for him... One day, my best guy friend said that he'd left. He moved without a word to me. I talked to him after and he said that he'd never loved me, it was all a joke. I was played and that was that. I'm the stupid one, eh?
Here are a couple of songs that helped numb my heart, that's the only thing that helped...
We -- Lasse Lindh
Sidewalks -- Story Of The Year
Brothers On A Hotel Bed -- Death Cab For Cutie
I was going to reply with songs, as my iTunes library currently consists of about 79gb of music which amounts to about 18,000 songs. lacuna responded with songs I was going to mention. POD - Will You is a song that I was happy to see in the list of his many. At least 10 songs there were ones I was going to suggest. So the only other songs I haven't seen are both by Queens of the Stone Age: I Never Came and Autopilot. Both songs are not exactly some of their harder stuff but its the lyrics that really strike you in a time of emotional need. Just about any Three Days Grace song can get you going as well.
Many people seem to dislike 3DG but I really like them. Partly because they were drilled into my head at work, we choose our own music and everyone in the store liked them so two of their CDs were playing everyday for the entire summer in a 5 disc machine over the speaker system. I like them particularly because when your in a good mood they make you feel good for not being in the state that the singer is in, just seems like his life is falling apart and he always has shit to deal with. In addition, if you are in a terrible mood, its like wow someone has also felt my pain. Yes that's common sense, everyone goes through stuff but when your hurt you don't particularly think of others but rather, focus specifically on your pain and its more of a reminder that your not alone in your struggle.
All the best man, you will get through this.
Here's some that have been making me feel better. I'm avoiding SAD songs, so here's some somewhat bitter ones ;)
All American Rejects - Gives You Hell
Hinder - Without You
Britney Spears - Why Should I Be Sad
Jodee Messina - Bring On The Rain
Lily Allen - **** You
Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know
Brand New - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
Kate Nash - Foundations
Paramore - Decode
Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around
The Veronicas - This Is How It Feels
Keyshia Cole - Let It Go
September - Cry For You
Taking Back Sunday - You're So Last Summer
KT Tunstall - Heal Over
But here's some REALLY good, but sad ones...
Death Cab For Cutie - Heart Is An Empty Room

Snow Patrol - Run
Staind - Everything Changes
Sufjan Stevens - Alone With You
The Used - On My Own
Terminal - Wisher (Piano Version)

Sia (Australian female artist) is great on many levels; stunning voice, amazing lyrics and her music ranges from the fun and quirky to deeply emotive. This woman is worth a listen.
