I agree... However, I sense the fault lies with both... not just him. Perhaps he is unwavering with the cat... but she may be unhealthily attached to tha cat too. Who knows? I can't make assumptions here... I don't have all the facts.

I do know that they didn't agree on this or could even find a compromise... so it was wise that they break it off before more complex decisions came into play later on in the relationship --- like having children.

I guess neither of the pussy was that good... cause he's leaving. That's got to be a blow to one's confidence.

I don't really have a problem with the OP not wanting to marry into a cat family. Pets ARE like children, and if you aren't up for it, then don't do it or you'll be sorry. Not everyone is cut out for it.

I agree with Vashti. He wasn't into it and he did the right thing by breaking it off.

Just don't make up shit about animals being dirty or not as dear as ppl etc, its just not true. We have a cat & my house is spotless. The cleanliness has to do with the owners. And while I tend to think of cats more like farm animals, my son will be broken when that beast finally kicks it, we have 4 "ppl" in our family, not 3.

Well, there ARE some filthy pet owners. I've been in homes where you go in & you can smell the presence of the animals. Makes me afraid to sit on the furniture and not think too hard about what might be crawling in the carpets. Disgusting, and for that I cannot blame the OP.

I guess the thing that bothers me with the OP's point of view, is that the cat brings her happiness and why would he completely disregard something that brings her this much happiness? Unless the OP were allergic, I don't see why he couldn't at least try to tolerate the critter. He sounds completely lacking in empathy, which is not a good quality to have in relationships.

I also think the girlfriend should have never agreed to give up the cat, and then gone back on her word because that most likely created additional resentment. She should have been more honest in the beginning, that the cat meant as much as it did to her.

I have a dog, and when he dies, I NEVER want another pet. I don't think that makes me "bad"; I am simply done with having pseudo step-children. Animals (like children) are a big responsibility.

I do agree she should never have agreed to get rid of the beast to begin with, if it was that important to her.
