Thinking about moving again.
Maybe.
I'm considering going to school, or joining the Union. Both of which are 4-5 year commitments. I don't think I would want to do either in New Orleans due to hurricane season.
Was looking into Austin, TX, or maybe somewhere in Colorado. Austin has been claimed to be one of the best cities to live and work in this past year, so maybe it's not so bad.
Is Hawaii in your list of choices? =P. We haven't seen much of a impact here in the state yet, luckily.

Take anything you can get, Fras. Hotel sounds better than bank, perhaps you could get into maintenance w/a hotel once you are in. Union, that.

If you are going to move, then move someplace to make a ton of $$$. Look up oil rigs and stuff up here in Canada. TONS of money for a single guy willing to bust his ass.

Depends on the contract. I know guys who went on the rigs w/wives/GF for a couple years. They come back with more than enough to buy a house outright. Oil fields also. These places are developing and need skilled tradespeople.
Its just an option, however unlikely.
I used to work at the corporate office for a rather large auto parts distributor (1300 stores) a few years ago. 13 people decided to cook the finances to get their bonuses. The resulting fallout years later was that over 2000 people lost their jobs, including me, and then the company was bought by a competitor and even more people lost their jobs.
Talk about a kick in the nuts for me emotionally. It was really kind of miserable, and when they asked me if I had anything to say about why I was being laid off I let them have it.

Keep your head up Fras, and stay in NO. The city needs people there that are willing to work and bring it back to life.
I have an interview with a small residential electrician.
I don't know if it's a one man show or what, but he says he's starting to get into solar panels and such.
I did mostly commercial work, working with pipe and MC (sorry, metal clad cable), runnin' that stuff on metal racks, through metal studs. He would most likely be running romex (non metallic sheathed cable) through wood studs. Plus, it's more likely he's doing service calls and working with existing structures than new construction.
This may not be bad depending on the pay. It would be nice to expand my experience to the service/residential side of things.
That does blow and probably didn't feel very good. Nice thing is they do recognize how good you are at what you do and how valuable you are to them and want you back as soon as they can afford to rehire you.
