Anyway, my two cents on the matter is that the vagina gets looser after having children, but its pretty elastic and clenching exercises can reset the tone. It also depends on how traumatic the birth was.
The way my OB explained it, large births weight babies (which we see more often due to better nutrition) can have an effect if the vaginal muscle is allowed to tear. This is why episiotomies are sometimes recommended. Otherwise you get fibrotic tissue forming to replace the torn muscle during healing, which is much less elastic than the original vaginal muscles. Anyone with a poorly healed injury knows you can't exercise fibrous tissue to improve tone, and its much less elastic than muscle, so kegels very soon after birth can help to restore muscle tone.
