I had that particular affliction when I was younger. I grew out of it when I started spending time with ppl from other cultures, esp mid east & asian ones.
You like to mull things over, I know, so here's a thought for you.
Truth is fluid. It is not absolute, its contextual. There are many cultures, much older (and arguably more experienced), that think that the Western idea of 'always speaking the truth' is very immature. In fact, only children & the mentally retarded ever express themselves so blatantly.
It need not be your philosophy, but it is an alternate, equally valid one. In any case whichever you choose, there are consequences.
I tend to use a mixture, FWIW. Depending on the context of the situation. ;)
