Ok I am not going to comment yes their good and yes they work or no their bad and no stop wasting your time on a long distance relationship.
So my honest question here, is whats your view on a long distance relationship and would you have one. Assume if you were living in the USA and had a woman back here in Australia or Hong Kong what ever, do you believe in them.
They are fun and exciting at the start but they have a short shelf life. The next level in a relationship is to be physically together....so when you can't the relationship cannot progress. When it becomes apparent that you won't be seeing each other it can be very heartbreaking. Another issue is that they may seem to be the love of your life, but when you see them in real life it gets be a disappointment. I've talk to a woman that left her country to be with a man, had his child and, it turned out he was a cheater and abusive. She didn't have any money or means to get home and she feared he would take the child away from her....very sad. Others find out their bf/gf are married.
So LDR's are great if you are looking for the short term. If you are looking for someone to be a part of your life date locally.
No. How can a 'relationship' work when you cannot physically be with the other person. No way, no chance.
I believe that LDR-s can work for a while (shorter or longer), until both partners decide what they are going to do so they can be together. I don't think a LDR could last for an eternity - and actually, this seems both sadistic & masochistic. I also believe that a LDR won't work if one of the partners is less involved than the other one - there must be a compatibility between their levels of commitment and involvement.
If I would ever have one? Yes; actually I already have had. If I believe in them? Yes, as long as this situation is a temporary one.
To me, long-distance relationships are like leprechauns. I've heard of them, and I even have an idea of what they look like. But I don't believe in them, and want nothing to do with them. If there was a short-term goal involved, I guess I would give it a try, but in the long-term one person or the other needs to move so they can be together.
Ok reason I asked this question. I know this girl, she met this guy on FB/facebook and bang it was love at first sight !!. She's never met him in person, he lives in USA, is divorced etc, she is also divorced has 2 kids etc.And she told me he might fly over to Australia to come and visit her.
Now here's the other scenario. Both her daughters are at school here in Australia, their settlled here very well, hve their close friends here etc i.e school friends, she has a good paid job here as well. He's coming over from USA to see her etc. First off I dont think she will pack up and move to USA and might be hard for her to get green card to go to the US and live, I dont think its as easy as it sounds and 2ndly I dont think her daughters will be happy to do this.
And will he be willing to pack up and leave the US to come here to live, not sure, this means leave his job etc etc.
Kind of a catch 22 situation here.
Why is this your business? They are both mature and they'll find a way to be together if that's what they want and what makes them happy. Meeting is the normal next step in a LDR. They meet, see how they get along in real life, see if they want to meet again and if everything goes well, they'll work on solutions for being together (in real life).
I like to have a relationship and if it is distant I will feel excited. Of course we can chat a lot on line and use webcam even to show ourselves and our sexual organs too and we can masturbate online. And we can do it for years and if we can arrange to meet after a long time and the meeting will be really fabulous.Quote:

I class my relationship as long distance..he lives a 3 hour drive away. I wouldnt and couldnt do anything further away than that. It is extremely hard and requires a lot of effort on both our parts. Were lucky enough to see each other almost every week for a couple of days, i cant imagine how anyone could manage with living in another country from their OH (unless maybe you were together first and its a temporary thing)
Love at first sight - without actually physically seeing and being with the other person? They must be bloody desperate. And if you seem to 'get on' when you do actually see each other it's a hell or a risk to move to the other side of the planet cos chances are it won't work anyway. You have to spend serious time with someone to really know if being together all the time will work. And even then there are no guarantees.
