First Date Jitters? Be Irresistible

Alright, so congrats on the first date thing. It's a big step. As they said in the movie:

"Just remember, she's already out with you. That means she said yes when she could have said no. That means she made a plan when she could have just blown you off. So that means it is no longer your job to make her like you. It's your job not to mess it up."

...or vice versa for females...

Anywho. I'm going to give you two simple tips for the first date. If you use these, even if you look like Quasimodo, you're bound to do something right:

1.)Wear Something Soft: It's really a simple concept. Cashmere, cotton, silk, velvet...whatever your weapon of choice may be. Brush up against or bump into your date "accidentally" once or twice. Being soft or pleasent to the finger tips only gives them one less reason to not want to touch you.

2.)Wear A Scent:And I don't mean a Mexican shower. When your date's eyes water, you know you've worn way too much. I reccomend spraying yourself at least 2 hours before your big night. The alcohol smell will reduce greatly enhancing the scent and even though you might not be able to smell it, your body heat will activate it. Not having a strong scent gives them a reason to linger after that first hug.

Nasty. I will not linger at all if you are wearing a scent. Guys- listen to me- not all girls like this. I find it repellent.

yea i have found a lot of girls dont really like a scent, if they do its not like they care if you wear it.

Thanks for your response and criticism. It was just a tip...not a commandment. It may work for some, and frankly it has worked for quite a few people who have asked me for help. It also covers the basic principle of people wearing too much...

Not to be excessively crude, but I think advising men to masturbate before their first date is better advice.

hey folkz. i was googling for some dating tips and found this topic. the scent thing does work...for me at least.

I like it when a guy has a nice scent that I can associate with him, but necessarily a perfume or cologne. The last guy I dated used some sort of peppermint-scented analgesic muscle rub, and he always smelled a bit like peppermint- I LOVED it. But anything more than a hint is too much.

I like the smell of many colognes, but they make me sneeze if they are too strong.

I always wear aftershave when I'm on the pull...........most girls compliment me on how good I smell. I go for a mild nice smelling aftershave and always get a few female opinions on it before I use it.

It's dodgy territory though, peoples sense of smell differs. Some wemons perfume I find revolting. BUT the right perfume can make a girl seem more attractive

Yah i'm allways have kissing in the first date... And comming in the girls house for the "coffe" :evil:

I agree that a scent is a nice touch, it can make me want to be closer! ...spot on Hitch

Out of curiosity, what do you ladies think of body wash? I never wear cologne, but I am in the habit of taking long showers and lathering up before the big date. It gives me a faint scent I think... I'm not very receptive to it. Gotta press my nose right up to my skin before I can smell anything.

Flowery is for girls! It smells like guy-stuff. Hrm. You know, like men's deodorant or aftershave, only not. I think it's called After Hours, which makes me think of dried puke and stale cigarettes.

I agree: a shower, if a scent go for something fresh smelling (less intrusive)...a lime for instance. Nice clothes, not overstated because you aren't doing a fashion show for her. She's supposed to be The Item at the table, not you. You are there to show her off, to say "I'm proud to be with her."

And, if you are going to take her out, be sure to have the cash. Don't take her to some expensive place IF you cannot afford it.

Last date for me was $250, although my most expensive date involved flying somewhere else for dinner and everything was a thousand dollar evening. I was prepared to pay. When a guy takes it in stride and pays without looking all pale, that shows confidence. So, take her to place where you can afford to do it right and where you don't have to hope that she doesn't order dessert (great dinner disaster scene: Fast Times at Ridgmont High).

And, ultimately...being prepared to pay means that you don't have your whole hopes riding on Getting It. You are taking her out and you should be in the mood which blends "You make me proud to be with you" with the ever-so-slight (very very subtle) sense that she might get that this is your venue and you are in your element--the dinner, the scene, the whole thing.

And brush your tongue...

If there is some relatively obscure dish available at the restaurant that you know that you already totally like and have eaten, be sure ot order it (assuming that it is not loaded with onions or garlic). Odds are she hasn't had that dish before and so you can share a piece of it...sort of the modern version of being the Big Hunter (aka "Me go kill ostrich and eat it. Hmm good. Want piece of it?" It is especially good news if she tries the mystery meal and likes it and wants more it. Then, you have introduced her to a new thing and she'll likely remember you--"I remember the first time we ate ostrich together...it was our first date, remember?" Don't get carried away with the moment and start telling her about how you've had it prepared in the past...that'll bore the shit out of her and you lose whatever value you created.
