I checked it out on snopes just to make sure it was real and it is.
It's old (1969) but still a sweet story.. tonight was my first time hearing about it.
Awwwww! So cute.
I think there might have been a couple of moments where the lion had the "mmm, food" glint in its eye when it was hugging the humans.

cute! christian reminds me of a fat version of baron. baron is about that height. my sabrina jumps up on us and gives us hugs and kisses just like that lion.

I left my puppy at my ex's house for many months because I was not allowed to have pets in my apartments. I finally went over there to get some things and my dogs (had 3 :( but the ex would not allow me to get them. As I was getting back into my car to leave, my dog ran from the backyard through the gates and towards my moving car. I stopped to pick him up and away we went.

indi you know what's funny... when these guys were trying to figure out what to do w/ their 185 lb lion actors Bill Travers & Virginia McKenna stopped by the furniture store where they worked.. and they had just got done filming 'Born Free' and introduced these guys to the real life George Adamson in Kenya.

Great possibility this is fake. But I am glad if it isn't.
I recall one another case where female lion adapted a deer baby. She did not eat it, but kept it as her baby. Don't know what happened to her later though and what was the future of the baby.
Lions are just beautiful animals aren't they. So sad when they show Christian's parents pacing back and forth behind bars in a zoo. I don't like going to zoo's for that very reason. These animals belong out in the wild.

I saw a special on a lioness that adopted an orphaned gazelle. She had lost her own cub and still had the strong motherly instinct. It was sad though because the gazelle became very weak and dehydrated after not having it's mother's milk... eventually a rogue male lion found it and killed it... but they said shortly after that the same lioness kept adopting gazelle calf's. Multiple calf's and each one died due to dehydration. Very strange that this lioness kept trying to adopt gazelle calf's.
Yes, the story I meant was the same one, with a gazelle. That was strange indeed. Heh, jokingly I may think maybe she wanted to be a framer like we humans do, to have constant food on the table.

I didn't ask precisely because of his name. But more, as I saw there was church involved, to understand from where and how such video may have originated.
You know what boils my blood? When people say stuff like "I like animals too... cooked and dipped in A1 sauce." You know what? We all are carnivorous to a certain point... but to have no sympathy towards the well being of other creatures is so ****ing cruel.
It's not that they're unsympathetic as much as they are basically pointing out that there does exist a food chain and it has its conveniences. Plus it's fun to poke care-bears. Except for Tiay. She's a care-bear that bites when poked, lol.

People think just because we have superior intellect that it gives us the right to just enslave and destroy. Just because we can doesn't mean it's right.
Sure our intellect gives us dominion over the earth, but with that comes a lot of responsibility to find ways to peacefully coexist with the rest of the flora and fauna.
I get in a lot of heated arguments at work.
I've been thinking lately though what if the main purpose of human beings and our destructive & careless ways is to spawn a new species.. the next species that will dominate the earth. Maybe not in yours or my lifetime.
I think it would be ironic and actually deserved.
I can't help but think everything is just a bunch of self-sustaining chemical reactions running around operating as they see fit, with survival as guidelines and whims as motivators.

When we go out and destroy our ozone layer. We go out and cut down cypress tree's which are Louisiana's best defense against hurricanes. We continue to tear down forests despite the fact that tree's help absorb the massive amounts of CO2 we pump into the air. We upset natural ecosystems, we cause species to become extinct every day, we will sell our souls and our planet for what...? For survival? To ensure continuation of our species? No, for money. Something so utterly worthless yet so important.
I like animals, as long as they aren't in my house and I don't have to take care of them.
The only reason humans appear 'smarter' than some animals, is because humans depend on each other. Take a random person from LA and put them in the wild; chances are they will not survive. Most of humanity has devolved into a bunch of civilized, circumcised monkeys. Put them up against a tiger.... not even a tiger... a bobcat. I will bet you the bobcat would win.Quote:

Simple concept. I'll pm you when I have it fully written out and on my website. Clearly, if you were 'smarter' than the bobcat, you'd be able to trick it into your submission. But no, how about we give you (no, not talking directly to you Aegis) a 12 gauge... yeah, then you might be able to defend yourself, if you can manage to pull the trigger... while you may not know a damn thing about how the device operates, or how it came to it's current state.
I'm guessing most humans would piss their pants and start crying... either that or try to run away, and get mauled to death. Some would try to climb up the tree, only to discover that their predator can do the same.
I guess you could read a few books on how to defend yourself... or maybe take a shotty with you wherever you go. But take all that away. Put a human in an environment where he or she has to rely on his or her instincts. What would happen? I think the chances of survival would be quite low - and this disgusts me.
Well, if its any consolation, it is extremely unlikely we will utterly destroy the earth. Even our most powerful weapons, all detonated at once, can't do that. Worse case is that we make it completely unlivable for ourselves and we die off as a species. But some life will remain & will fill the niche we leave behind. Its happened before. Remember the earth grows in terms of millions of years, and we are an incredibly young species by that reckoning. The dinosaurs existed much, much longer than we have, tho ppl forget that fact while discussing our 'superiority'. :surprisedQuote:

There's a great timeline graph that illustrates the existence of humans as a fraction of the earth's total age (and other species). Its quite sobering to view it from that perspective (we are a mere sliver). I'll try to find it (unless someone else finds it first).

Humans are expansionist. I used to think we could change our ways, but I don't think we have the self-control or even desire to limit ourselves as a species. We really are quite viral in a lot of ways, which isn't surprising given how much of our genome is made up of viral elements.
The only way we will survive as long as the dinosaurs is to get off the planet, agreed.
Necessity is going to force change in the future. There just needs to be that element of motivation (necessity) for it to happen. Right now, the need to change things like controlling the population (China finally got one thing right) and not using alternative energy just don't have a pressing enough reason to yet. When gas prices double what they are now, THEN there will be change in energy consumption patterns (finally). I too, though, wish their could be some more proactivity
And what you said about humans having a virus component reminds me of what Agent Smith said to Morpheus in the Matrix, but that isn't true. Our behavior IS very much like most other living things, you continue to reproduce until you find an equilibrium. Clearly we haven't hit that equilibrium yet. And viruses get a bad rap for being a model for our expansionist behavior. The lysogenic cycle of a virus is THEIR equilibrium, they don't just kill everything they infect
