She probably thinks it is gay because (1) she is using it as excuse because she doesn't want to do it (don't blame her) or (2) because it is perceived to be "gay" because that is the only way two males can make love together besides oral.

It is not gay that a male wants to penetrate the anus of a female. It's just another form of sexual expression just like oral sex between heterosexual couples. And as such, I would use devices or such to penetrate his ass as well. He admires her anus and she can also admire his. These are heterosexual couples having another form of sexual contact.
